After reporting on the mysterious ‘S’ images circulating from Anderson Entertainment and the announcement of something called ULTRAMARIONATION, ScreenRelish can reveal that a brand new television project has been announced from Anderson Entertainment – GERRY ANDERSON’S FIRESTORM.

The project was revealed earlier today by Jamie Anderson, the son of legendary TV/film producer Gerry Anderson, the man responsible for creating/co-creating nearly half a century’s worth of cult classic television and films.

Originally a Japanese anime produced in the early 2000′s, the original version of FIRESTORM is generally considered extremely below par, mostly due to its deviation from Gerry’s original vision. Now this re-imagining perports to right those wrongs, with a little help from Kickstarter to fund the pilot. The Kickstarter campaign launches on the 30th of September.

But surely the most exciting aspect of this project is that GERRY ANDERSON’S FIRESTORM will be filmed using ‘practical effects (real explosions), physical sets and props, model miniatures, and of course puppets!’ This modern process of using miniature models has been dubbed ‘Ultramarionation’. Should this project prove as successful as Jamie’s other Anderson Kickstarter project, the novel trilogy GEMINI FORCE 1, GERRY ANDERSON’S FIRESTORM will be the first Anderson production to fully use models and marionettes with no involvement of CGI or real actors since 1968′s JOE 90.

You can view the announcement article here, which also explains why the recent cryptic images bear the letter ‘S’ instead of ‘F’:

“We’re very fond of the S. It’s there for two reasons. Firstly the S is a logo inside the Firestorm world. Our heroes in Firestorm are all operatives working for Storm Force 9, a division of Storm Force. The S stands for Storm Force! Firestorm is the operation that Storm Force are undertaking, so the S features in the Firestorm logo, and inside the world. The second reason is for authenticity. The S was always a feature of the original Firestorm series’ logo, so we wanted to keep it that way.”

Are you looking forward to GERRY ANDERSON’S FIRESTORM?
